"I Hate Quotes" -- Samuel L. Clemens |
This site is built around the nickname PianoMan, not because I play the Piano (I actually play the Trumpet, and not very well), but because music is very important to me, and it was my alias when I Sysop'd Utopia BBS in northern Maryland from ~1994-1996. Since then its kindav stuck around as my online alias. I'm one of those annoyingingly curious types.. you know, the ones who rip everything apart and can't always put it back together? well, thats me. That's why I figured I had to become an Engineer, so I'd actually be able to put things back together correctly. I have such a wide range of interests, and contrary to popular belief I try NOT to spend all my time in front of a computer. I enjoy music, and to me it's the highest form of art. From Bhrams to the Bangles, Aerosmith to Zepplin, Andrew Lloyd Webber to TMBG, I enjoy it. I'm also a big sports nut, especially baseball, and especially the Orioles (yes, I am hopeless). And i generally just love to have fun. |
Born: 8/12/78 in Maryland, Raised in Edgewood, MD, Harford Co. Went to St. Stephen's school for 1-3rd grades, Edgewood Elementary School for 4-5th, Edgewood Middle School for 6-8th, John Carroll High School for 9-12th, and Rensselaer Polytechnic from 13th-the end of the century.
Entered Geekdom somewhere around the age of 6 when I typed in "Inch Worm" to the family's TI 99/4a computer and sat for hours mezmorized by a multicolor blob moving back and forth across the screen. Unfortunately, my programs have not gained much in complexity since then. I co-ran Utopia BBS in MD from 1994-1996 (the beginnings of my hacker (not cracker) life). More information about Utopia can be found here at Deater's site
I discovered girls somewhere around the 1st grade, and succeeded in getting a date by the 12th. Enough said.
Been an Orioles baseball fan all my life. Watched Cal's record breaking game from the standing room only seats at Camden Yards. Also watched them go from worst to, well, ALMOST first in '89. Still miss Memorial Stadium though, that's where the REAL fans were. You remember that time, Baltimore, right? when you didn't have to mortgage your house to see a baseball game and pay Albert Belle's salary?
Played in the Pit Orchestra in high school, and I'd like to do it again. It was the most fun I've ever had playing an instrument. Anyone need an out of practice Trumpet player?
Moved to Massachusetts after college. Turned down guaranteed government employment, and then offers from several prominent computer companies (HP, Cray/Tera to brag a bit) to work for a Linux startup. You can guess the outcome of that. But I thoroughly enjoyed it and have no regrets. I was the lucky enough to land a job Sun Microsystems afterwards, and now work in thier high-end server division.
That's about it. It's the short condensed version, but I figured I'd spare you the gory details. You don't REALLY want to know about me, you're just here to swipe my ultra-cool GREP powered search engine.
So these are the important people. So
important I've made them have a separate page, located here, but be warned,
even though as I'm writing this I haven't written the page yet,
there's bound to be a lot or pictures.
That only covers the friends I'm still in touch with. It doesn't cover
those who I've known but (for whatever reason, normally my laziness) I
haven't been able to keep in touch with. I'd like to know where these
people are, how they're doing, and what they're up to. So if anyone knows
them, could you let me know how they're
doing? And let them know I'd like to hear from them. They include:
(Sher)Monica Farrow:
Lived in Edgewood, MD and went to Edgewood high when I went to JC. Last
I heard she moved away somewhere around sophmore year (1994?).
Amanda Lyon:
Again, Lived in Edgewood, but I haven't seen her around since sophmore
year in high school.
Aviator and Tin Man:
Two people who used to frequent BBS's in the northern MD/Harford County
area. Specifically, Utopia BBS. I had a wonderful time discussing life
and many questions of the universe with these people, and I'd like to know
how they're doing. I know they both used to be on The Arcade Room, and the
Sanitarium as well, both under those aliases as I remember. Also, I'd
like to hear from anyone else who remembers Utopia in it's glory days...
Diety, where are you? Panda Bear? ahh, memories....
