Day 14 - Livingston MT to Rapid City SD
Day 14 - 30 June 2006 - Friday
--- Starting in Livingston Montana ---
We woke up, and drove a long way (for once)
on I-90. We drove through Billings,
and we stopped at
Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument.
We watched a presentation; in the background on top of the hill
is a monument marking the site of Custer's last stand:
Here is Ranger Kelly demonstrating what an Indian Warrior might have looked
like (definitely the most amusing part of
the presentation):
We drove the road that followed the path of the battle, and then
got back on the highway and continued on our way.
The road heads south and we went into Wyoming again.
--- Entering Wyoming ---
Wyoming is very flat and dry here, with lots of oil wells.
We stopped in Sheridan so Kristina's sister could but a cowboy hat,
and stopped for ice cream in New Castle. It was getting late by
the time we got to South Dakota.
--- Entering South Dakota ---
We were now in the Badlands. We stopped at
Jewel Cave National Monument
but unfortunately it was after the last tour of the day
(A place to go back to, it looks neat).
We then went to Mount Rushmore:
There was ugly orange fencing everywhere in preparation for fourth
of July festivities. There was also a large contingent of some
high school band running around in blue shirts. We don't know where
they are from, because they figured their town was famous enough to
not require a state name.
Here is George Washington from inside a crevasse:
We then stopped in Rapid City for the night. We managed to find a room,
despite the Presidential festival going on. On every street corner
they had a statue of a different president.
--- Ending in Rapid City, South Dakota ---
