Day 15 - Rapid City SD to Saint Charles MN
Day 15 - 1 July 2006 - Saturday
--- Starting in Rapid City South Dakota ---
We woke, and got back on I-90 heading East. We drove by the infamous
Wall Drug, and then went to
Badlands National Park.
Kristina and I had been here
a year ago, but our new
camera is much better so I took more pictures
(as usual, after claiming he wouldn't take any
:P ).
Here is what the badlands look like:
We drove on the road through the park, with miles of lovely scenery.
We got out at the Door formation, and made sure to avoid any snakes:
You can wander among the formations, and it would be so easy to get
lost:
We left the park and kept driving on I-90. We crossed the Missouri
River:
At some point here we lost another hour, entering the Central Time Zone.
We stopped at Mitchell to see the Corn Palace:
Sure enough, they had redone the design since the
last time we were here. We stopped somewhat disastrously for ice
cream at a dairy queen, and then drove some more, until eventually
we got to Minnesota.
--- Entering Minnesota ---
Near Blue Earth we possibly saw from the highway the
Jolly Green Giant Statue. Sorry, no picture of that.
Outside of Rochester we stopped to visit another one of Kristina's
sister's college friends. His grandparents lived right near the highway,
and they were nice enough to let us stay for the night.
They had an impressive garden, and
here is the friend's restored 1951 Chevy:
After dinner, we were offered infinite rootbeer floats. That made
me very happy (to everyone's great amusement):
--- Ending in Saint Charles, Minnesota ---
