Memorial Day Weekend Ithaca Trip

It was determined that since I am going to Cornell in the fall, I really should find a place to live. So we drove up Thursday [we being Kris, my brother Kevin, my guinea-pig Susie, and me].

We stayed over Thursday night in Ithaca, at the world famous Super 8 motel. Graduation turned out to be on Sunday, so there was no chance of getting a hotel room nearby for the rest of the weekend.

We visited a large number of apartment complexes, and by 2pm Friday I had signed a lease. It is a small studio apartment, close to campus. Time will tell the wisdom of my choice.

We got semi-lost and stumbled upon Ithaca Falls.

It is downstream from the ones described during my Cornell visit. And our car didn't even get towed away while viewing it.

We went to Taughannock Falls which I had been to previously. It was less rainy this time [suprising, as there was maybe one day of full sunshine all of May 2003], and the water was a bit lower.

After returning to the Wegman's so my brother could stock up on an amazing array of exotic vegetables, fruits, and candies, we started on our way to Elmira, NY, to meet up with Kris's family.

Susie was spoiled by being fed said exotic vegetables, but thisonly partially made up for the road vibrations causing her water bottle to drain into her cage.

Along the way was Buttermilk Falls. We did't have time to go back any of the trails, we just milled about wondering if people really did swim there.

We ended the evening at a fairly elegant Motel 6 in Elmira. It is improbably right on route 17. Interstate 86 just ends for a half-mile or so between exits, with a built up shopping strip and traffic lights. Then it starts up again. I am not sure exactly how they plan to fix this oversight. We then managed (eventually) to find the Ponderosa for dinner. Lots more eating out on this trip than normal.
