Upper Buttermilk Falls
As spring finally gets to Ithaca, Kristina and I try to get out
on hikes more often.
We had been to Buttermilk falls a few times, but never along the whole gorge.
So we parked at the top and walked down, then walked up the trail that hugged
the stream. It is very reminiscent of Watkin's Glen.
Above the main waterfall, it's waterfalls the whole way up, including some
pouring through narrow gaps:
Here's further upstream. It was getting late, and our camera kept
insisting on using the flash and draining its battery.
Here's the famous "pinnacle" that for some reason the stream eroded around:
Here's a pothole, carved by the stream:
After getting back to our car, we continued going upstream, and despite
being flat for a while, you find another waterfall. Here it is,
with me in it for scale:
Above that falls is an old dam and a lake, but we didn't go that far
on this particular day.
