Obviously the events of 11 September 2001 affected me, as it did many
around the world. I've avoided commenting on it though because I dislike
the media's reaction and hype. I also am not sure if our government is
doing the right thing, but so far I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.
I was actually in Washington DC 8AM that morning. I was on my way to
College Park for grad-school recommendations. I was supposed to take an Amtrak
train from DC to Boston that afternoon, but for obvious reasons that did not
happen. I ended up staying in MD a week longer than I thought I would.
The following saturday I did make the train trip. Usually as you approach NY
from NJ the towers would loom on the horizon. In this case, even though it
was almost a week later, there was only smoke instead.
I happened to have my digital camera on me, so somewhat morbidly I snapped
some pictures. The smoke on the horizon is rising from the Manhattan
skyline, but it is a bit hard to make out.
